Conservation Fund: Restoring wildlife corridor, expanding and protecting biodiversity habitats, empowering communities

Funding Restorative conservation, Research, and community wellbeing with a Focus on Creating a thriving conservation area for wildlife and people. Enarau Conservancy is one of the community-owned and managed wildlife and bio-diversity protection areas acting as the last line of defence for the Maasai Mara on its northern side, shielding the world-renowned wildlife sanctuary from extensive human activities. The landowners established the Conservancy in 2022 to protect threatened habitats, including forested areas and a critical 21-acre wetland that features a year-round stream, which breathes life into the Conservancy and feeds into the Mara River.

The area still bears the evidence of the destruction in years gone by. In the conservancy, a 336-acre patch of reclaimed land is undergoing restoration after three decades of intensive farming. The soil is now recovering slowly from the intensive use of fertilisers, pesticides, and other chemicals. However, the Conservancy needed to do more than just persuade landowners to commit their land to conservation. It recruited a team to spearhead the conservation efforts, including a team of rangers to protect the integrity of the Conservancy by forestalling illegal activities. The team utilises EarthRanger technology, enabling real-time event tracking, including wildlife sightings, conflict reports, and ranger movement data.

Transforming lives and conservation through clean and safe water

Support a community-led water project in Enarau Conservation Trust.

At Enarau Conservation Trust, our vision is clear: to create a sustainable future where people, wildlife, and nature coexist in harmony.

  • Empowering local communities to live alongside wildlife by promoting conservation-friendly livelihoods and sustainable resource use.
  • Becoming a model conservancy, inspiring other communities to adopt similar conservation approaches that benefit both people and nature.
  • Advancing scientific research to drive effective restoration and conservation efforts, ensuring biodiversity thrives in the Maasai Mara.
  • Harnessing technology to monitor ecosystem changes, track wildlife movement, and restore vital wildlife corridors.

Your support can transform lives by

  • Improving health and reducing waterborne diseases.
  • Ensuring children stay in school instead of spending hours fetching water.
  • Reducing human-wildlife conflict by securing water for both people and animals.
  • Empowering women by easing their daily burden and enabling them to focus on economic activities.
  • Strengthening conservation efforts, as communities with secure water access are more engaged in protecting the environment.
